Or Not

The sun will warm

Again

Or far

Too hot.

The water that sustains

Will flood

Again

Or not.

The tenet that prevails

Remains:

This magic of a planet

To protect

We ought,

Or an ultimatum

Spurred by greed

With life as

Afterthought,

Will render what we

Know

And what we for our

Children hoped,

Into a disaster

We had let be

Bought.

The Strength Of Stone

Ethiopia OfirAsif6

Photo: Ofir Asif

The strength of stone

Allows the rounding of its

Edges by time

And rain.

It lets the earth

Scour its base

As flood-paths swirl

And drain,

Even as it lets itself

Maintain

A firm place

To lean

One’s burden on,

Again.

Note: My nephew took this photo in Ethiopia, and I am humbled and moved by the beauty of it, and the eons it carries and the beginnings – and middles, and ends – of so many things it had seen.

Delicately

Delicate AmitaiAsif

She flitted gently by his head.

The slight bow noted, the sorrow that was there

But perhaps not heard.

She knew he had to hold himself up

All this time

That it was the only way

He’d learned.

And yet she could discern the hidden

Effort that it took

To rise against the gravity,

In times where drought of hope

Returned

Again and again and again.

She understood the energy required for

Making the Herculean appear effortless,

To constantly correct

The wobble under

Winds and strain.

She hovered for a moment

Letting a space of permission

Manifest

Before she landed, feather-weighted and,

Delicate

On his chest.

Nick’s Shtick

I nicked Nick

With a stick

After he picked

And tried to hit

Me

With a brick.

He should not try

Such a sick

Kind of shtick

If he doesn’t like

Being tricked

And summarily pricked

By a royally ticked

But quick thinking

Chick.

Not Fall

No fall PhilipCoons

Just you wait

And you’ll see

The real brave

I will be!

I will walk

With feet bare

From right here

To right there,

Without wobble

At all

I will cross

And not fall!

Note: It is WAY too early yet for me to do anything relating to the other meaning of the prompt word. So, nope … it was gonna be a “not” for me … 😉

Marble walls in carved glory

Hold

A marvel,

Home

For words

No longer

Kept

Small

But shared

With all.
