Where She Lies

Where the green grass ends

And the ocean grows

Is where she lies

And listens

To the crabs

As they crawl

And the fish

As they flutter

And the wind

As it lifts the

Wings of

Sandpipers

And spins

Seashells

On the sand.

Delicate Rest

Take a moment

To rest

Ere you once more

Take flight.

Let the weariest

Parts

Lean their weight

With foresight,

For the breath

That will come

Delicate

In the light.

The Strength Of Stone

Ethiopia OfirAsif6

The strength of stone

Allows the rounding of its

Edges by time

And rain.

It lets the earth

Scour its base

As flood-paths swirl

And drain,

Even as it lets itself

Maintain

A firm place

To lean

One’s burden on,

Again.

Note: My nephew took this photo in Ethiopia, and I am humbled and moved by the beauty of it, and the eons it carries and the beginnings – and middles, and ends – of so many things it had seen.

Sufficient Space

Side by side

Close together

They won’t really

Worry whether

There is sufficient

Personal space,

Just scoot a bit

And make a place

So this bed

Can rest another

Weary head.

When you’re out of juice

Depleted

Wrung out

Brain-mushed

Yawn-injected …

Take the time to rest.

When you’re harking for the days

Of face plant in spaghetti …

It’s time for slug-fest.

When you’re putting keys in fridge

And eggs in pockets …

Take the hint

And

Make a nest.
