Heart Memories

Kathtyn and Carol Jan08

Good friends to me,

To each other,

Their hearts and souls

Brimming love.

A decade passed

Since this photo,

And both had grown

Angel wings.

Sweet moments

Of memories

That won’t ever

Depart.

Dedicated to Kathryn and Carol, forever thankful to have known you. You are forever in my heart.

No Sale

The child gawked at the offers,

Little jaw dropped agape:

Who put Elmo in icing?

Why would anyone want

His best friend to bake?

The boy’s eyes traveled upwards,

Rounded wide at the shelf:

How did Ernie and Bert

End up stuck into cakes?

Can you pull out poor Oscar?

Can Big Bird escape?

This won’t do for my party

I want ice cream instead.

Angels’ Winds

The air pristine

On angels’ winds,

Unspoiled by what

Mans’ hands can bring.

In feathered clouds

And oceans’ swing,

It heralds surf

Of joy within,

To mark the waves

With dance that gleams,

And breathes along

A song to sing

For all that dreams.

Thankful Still

Thankful still for life’s living

Thankful still

For the hope

That each breath that’s drawn in

Can begin

And can bring.

Thankful still, if hadn’t always

For the ebb

And the flow

Of small joys and big sorrows

As they come

And they go

As we grow

And we know.

Fall Friends

Side by side

They keep near

In the wind

In the rain.

Limb to limb

They hold hands,

Close company

They maintain.

Friends in all

Friends in fall.

Cold Edge

At the fringe of the habitable

Where the ice kisses sky,

And the black rock remembers

Lava’s wrath, ashes’ sigh,

The cold wraps hands around hearts

To reach deep and warmth pry.

Guarded

Sentinels

Set in stone

Guard gates of

This temple zone.

Come to leave

You must pass

By these guards

From the past,

Who protect it

Perhaps

From time’s

Inevitable collapse.

Pensive Park

In a park, on a lawn,  by a

Trail

This board aimless wander

Curtails,

And the question it

Raises

Brings along varied

Phrases.

What would your heart

Assign

If you saw such a

Sign?

Rapids

And the waters

Rushed

Over slicked rocks

Into ravines.

Deafening the song

Of birds,

And burbling of

Fish,

Into thunder

Mist

As the bamboo

Creaked.

Berry Byway

Bravely walk the briar byways

Brushed to either side by burrs

Each step bordered by the brambles

That await the birth of berries

And bar the fruit from brazen strays.
