Summer Layers

Life is stacked like so

Many layers of summer

In the Central Park.

(Note: While I do resent the growing need to face reality of summer heading to an end, I accept the challenge for increased layer-awareness … 😉 ).

Peak’s Bones

Ancient stone

Not disowned

By old time’s

Marching on.

Newer walls

Chaperone

To contain

Buddha’s throne,

And only the peak’s

Crumbling bones

Tell of years

Now long

Gone.

Layer by layer

They go back

In time,

Descending through eras

They can carefully

Climb.

What whispers

What stories

Does the wadi

Impart?

Will their souls see

The footprints

These rocks know

By heart?

History’s Layers

Layered rock

Cracks and rifts

Blackened hearths

Tribes adrift

Weight of time

Overhead

Stories told

But not dead.
