She Was Busy

She was busy. She had no time for chatter. For sand to slide idly through the hourglass.

The day was short.

Each moment was precious. Each second, opportunity.

Her focus never wandered.

Each section had to have its exact place.

Every addition, calculated.

There were walls and gates and many fences.

There’d be knights and royals to showcase.

Moats and pits of fire.

She was, after all, building an empire.

Her Ants

She has ants

In her pants.

Restless thoughts

Writing plots.

No surprise

Her brain fries,

Daily grind

Flying blind.

Out Focus

He wanted to take the glasses off but it was not allowed.

The penalty was devastatingly permanent.

True Focus was reserved for a selected few. A privilege. Stealing it would result in losing all sight. Both eyes.

He blinked and tried to calm the nausea that came with the distorting lenses. He never got used to the dizziness. Or the headache.

He didn’t think they were meant to.

“Loyalty above clarity; Fealty, not facts.”

It was chanted. It was law.

A disoriented population was the goal.

He grieved for the realities that had been ignored when freedom still had hope.

Some jump out,

Intent on being

Captured

By the lens,

The center

Of focused

Attention,

While others

Fade delicately

Into the blurry

Background

To observe,

Potentially

Just as content.

Stay Focused

Stay focused on what matters:

The smiles that gladden

The hugs that hold

The beauty that makes your heart quicken

The deep power of empathy

The healing breath of soul.

Stay focused

On the big picture

And on the

Details

That make it

Whole.

Empty Focus

My nephew took this photo some years back during a summer hiking trip. I love it for its absolute focus and the mystery of the inhabitant that had created this fabulously textured, now deserted, sheltered place of transformation. A dried out speck in the blurry landscape and yet so wholly a world onto its own, now gone.

Emptied to Fulfill
