Shimmer’s Glimmer

Shimmer NaamaYehuda

Evening gathers to call

Flocks to watering hole

And to glimmers of fish

In the sparkling bowl.

Palm to palm

Whispers calm,

As the pond

Drained but bright

Refracts sun’s glinting light

From silvery fins

‘Til a good night.

There she stands,

Belongs,

Enlivened

By the land

That mountains birthed,

And the knowledge

Of the power

That she holds

Through Mother Earth.

Vibrant Welcome

Welcome, guests, into

Our midst.

Join right in, you’ll

Get the gist.

We’ll dance you

Through our jungle greens,

‘Twixt crops in fields,

Across ravines.

We’ll sing and chant

And strike the ground,

With feet and poles

And hearts and sound.

Welcome, guests, into

Our midst.

Where mists among

The mountains

Roam,

And culture bursts

In vibrant

Song.

Dedicated to the amazing villages in Papua New Guinea, who came out in their young and old and in betweens, to dance heartwarming welcomes to my nephew and his friends who stayed as guests in their midst.

Visibly Invisible

What do you see

When you look, but

Do not

Actually

See me?

Is it the shadow

Of what you believe

You ought to

See,

Or the reflected

Image

Of what you wish

You could

Be,

Or what you think

I must be

In order

To be visible

Enough

To be verified

As me?

Chim-Chimney

Chimneys inbarasif

Old slate well licked by lichen

And marbled

With moss,

Recalls clouds swirling

High

To kiss sky

With their smoke.

Jagged edges

Of years spent in

Rain, sun

And wind,

Hold with pride

To a chimney

That time hasn’t

Yet thinned.

The Vanishing Point

At the vanishing point

They have passed

To be gassed,

Leaving us

To a world

That forever now must,

Not forget

How the place

Of no return

Has been crossed,

And we none are

The same

For hate’s shadow’s

Been cast.

In the name of those

Vanished

Who shall not be forgot,

We can vow to hold hope,

And let compassion

Outlast.

In the slight pause between

Flapping up,

Flapping down,

Live the breath

And the lift

That propel

To carry on.
