Radiance

She lights up every room with her smile.

He effervescents joy in a dimple.

She casts love spells all around her.

He melts everyone to a puddle.

She makes your heart sing.

He ropes your soul in.

Their laughter makes right

Glow full bright

From a fizzle.

Their giggles shine rainbows

On sorrow

And drizzle.

They heal hope.

Luminesce peace.

They remind why it matters

We take care

To Insist.

Happy Girl

She giggles at the slightest silly

She grins at mirrors

Smiles through windows

Makes a dozen strangers’ day.

She beams at dogs, at books

A toy, a leaf, a pigeon

The world itself at play.

She chuckles at her own reflection

Adores someone’s freckles, wrinkles, shoes.

She rejoices in a pigtail, a polka-dot ribbon

Celebrates a doll, a braid, a tube of sparkling glue.

She chortles with abandon at a joke

“Again, again!”

She finds joy in the smallest moments

Her laughter paints bright happy into

Even the most mundane.

A mirror-mirror moment

It is always good to be … in good company …

Recognize the miracle that we each are …

A teaching mirror-mirror moment, by an adorable 3 months old.

Happiness glide

happy chipmunk

“I had the best weekend ever!” the preschooler’s eyes sparkled.

“Oh, wow, that’s so great!” I responded, grinning. It is contagious, you know, this kind of zest for life. And the enthusiasm of this little one was particularly catching. He literally beamed delight.

“We had the best ever dinner and the best ever pizza!” he bounced on his heels, the words not coming nearly fast enough. “And I saw the best movie ever on the Netflix. And my grandpa makes the best popcorn and it like magic in the microwave and I have the best pajamas ever!”

“You have new pajamas?!” My monkey brain had to assume.

He paused and regarded me with some confusion. “I already HAVE the best pajamas ever! It’s superman pajamas!”

Silly me.

He kicked off his shoes and glided on the wood floor with his socks, balancing with his arms. “Wheee! Best floor ever!”

“Did you have the best weekend ever, too?” he added, not quite waiting for a response before sighing contentedly. “You did, right? Because it was the best weekend ever!”

The details change a bit; there’s not always popcorn, sometimes its just TV and not Netflix, sometimes it is the park, or playing ball, or baking cookies, or his dad reading him  story. Doesn’t matter. The weekend is always–always–the best one ever.

And it makes for Happy Mondays; every one.

Giving Thanks

gratitude1

For all the things that merit gratitude,

Let there be many thanks.

For all the wonders that fill hearts

And gladden souls,

Let there be thanks.

For the bounty of all blessings:

For the smiles,

The newborn children,

The rediscovery of

Newfound hopes

And boundless potential

For growth,

Let there be thanks.

For it is not joy that

Makes us grateful,

But the thanks

that bring us

Joy.

Swing high

To all the little girls on beaches everywhere …

Inspired by the beatific smile of one …

Remembered with much fondness today.

swing beach

Swing high.

Touch the sky.

Feel the sand

Rushing by.

Sense the surf

Humming forth.

Hear the waves

Singing froth.

Swing on high.

To the sky.

Sun and cloud

Streaming by.

Move your heart

To the pace,

Of your legs’

Aerial race.

Swing up high.

Touch the sky.

My oh my.

Breathe and fly.

Hello Spring!

It is spring!

cherry blossom

lambs

eggs

The birds sing, and people walk around with the odd and gladdened smile of no-more-winter, raising eyes to the blue sky.

It is Spring!

The forsythia will bloom, the cherry trees will blossom, little buds will poke their heads up from the ground without a sound to boom a verdant glow.

It is Spring!

Nests will fill with fuzz and wooing birds and new twigs splendor, and perfect eggs will follow, curling hatchlings deep in dreams of endless worms.

It is Spring!

Open windows. Open jackets. Green grass reappearing under browning frost and bits of winter’s snow.

It is Spring!

Lambs will bleat, ducklings waddle, kids will scamper ‘cross new meadows, as their mothers languid, follow, sated by the younglings’ joy.

It is Spring!

Can you feel it? There’s a buzz, a distinct glitter. Light has changed–now amplified–and not only by the angle of the sun finally resuming duty, back to glory, hastening beauty.

It is Spring!

Don’t worry if some gray dreary days will come and try to turn the tide. Spring would not abide–it has come now, and it will forge paths in frozen soil to melt remaining cold.

Time’s come.

Winter has grown old. Its shift has ended. Spring sprung. Let’s welcome it aboard!
