Path Advice

In the deserts of life

When it seems that oases you’ve taken for granted

Have forgotten

Marked paths,

Don’t ignore painted signs

Of the flags of times past.

The direction you take may determine

If your very next steps

Lead to hope

Or end up being

Your last.

A Global Warning

They said it would get warm, but they didn’t say how quickly or how relentlessly. He thought it would take decades.

He was wrong.

Trees still foliaged but most other plants withered. Same for people.

It killed the young, old, weak, and callous. The talking heads had babbled about it before TV stopped. They couldn’t justify cooling the studios when the grid struggled to air-condition hospitals. Not that the latter did much good.

He sighed and retreated from the window. Ignored his daughter’s empty bed. They were warned. By the time they deigned to listen, it was already too late.

Benevolent Hope

In a world

Where tyrants gobble power

By cruel dominance,

There whispers also

The small voice

Of kind-souled cognizance.

With hands that hold the weak

And hearts that see

The sorrow,

They will become the light by which

We’ll write a new tomorrow.

Recreate 101

Recreate not what shouldn’t have happened

Yet had

But what should have taken place

And hadn’t

Or not quite as planned,

The seeds of which

Hold promise

To what may truly be

Worth recreating

When time

Once more

Comes around.

For The Daily Post

Radiance

She lights up every room with her smile.

He effervescents joy in a dimple.

She casts love spells all around her.

He melts everyone to a puddle.

She makes your heart sing.

He ropes your soul in.

Their laughter makes right

Glow full bright

From a fizzle.

Their giggles shine rainbows

On sorrow

And drizzle.

They heal hope.

Luminesce peace.

They remind why it matters

We take care

To Insist.
