Amid pebbles and sand
Atop tenacious pale greens
Three mouths unseal
In communal reveal
To welcome
Potential
Under an
Arid sun.

On a fence
In the city
Under balconies
To the sky,
Climbs a purple
Bunch of
Pretty,
A tangled riot
Reaching high.

In the silvery waters
It reflects
Lovely lines,
Of blue sky
And deep shadows
That so neatly
Align.

Deep in summer
When it bloomed
It held the promise
Of Autumn.

Atop a daisy’s crown
Of petaled
White
A bee hovers
Set to hold
The pollen sought
Like precious
Gold.

Bright as rays
Flowers glow
Soaked in warmth
Large they grow
Seeds of sun
They then sow.

In the small, darker moments
When light appears to be
Gone,
Recall life giving
Sunlight
Reflected
In crowned Chrysanthemum.
When the cold seeps
To sorrow
And the path may be
Lost,
Remember how the warmth
Of the many
Can the most hidden
Truths
Defrost.
A bit of trivia: Chrysanthemum Coronarium, AKA Glebionis Coronaria, is an edible variant of the Daisy family (the greens are eaten). It is native to the Mediterranean region but is cultivated in Asia, and more recently in North America. The plant is rich in minerals and vitamins, including potassium and carotene. Some toxic properties (dioxin) have been observed and extracts of the plant can inhibit the growth of some helpful gut flora.

A pink perch
For the flutter
A brief pause
On the fly
For the moment
That lapses
As a breath
Passes by.

May you always have a gentle place
To lounge with friends
And swing,
And bloom,
And sing.

Spring recalls
How bushes previously bared
By frost and freeze,
Found a new lease
To bubble forth
A pink exuberance.
It is a good remembering
As fall emerges
To reclaim
The bushes’ leaves
Ahead of winter’s
Naked sleep.
