Soon reaching top speed

In centrifugal

For some reason it seemed

This ensemble

Should work …

To select

Or object

Or someone’s cash

To collect.

Homecoming

As you descend toward the shore

You see

The water

Lapping

At the edges

Of what will

In a moment be

The touchdown to your welcome home.

Note: This photo was taken last month, on a cellphone, from behind the thick windows of a Boeing 787 on approach to JFK (shadow of the aircraft on the water).

Breath Power

Let the power

Of breath

Churn the air

Fill the earth.

Let the wind

Fill your sails

As you learn

To exhale.

Let the future

Flow clear

And may hope

Draw you near.

A Heart, Missing

Heart Yael Yehuda

There stands the empty crib

The room that will not hear

The sounds of cries or coos or laughter.

There are the walls,

Fresh paint

Fresh pain

For the awaited,

For a broken chapter.

A heart

Missing

Breast and breath

For an eternity of loss,

Till the hereafter.

Note: Dedicated with love to all empty-armed mothers (in all their manifestations and realities and outward presentations), on this Mother’s Day.

Towering Time

Windows blink

Sun and shade.

Emptied glass

Peers ahead.

While the dome,

Ivy wrought,

Towers time

Boggles thought.

Go against

The pressing grain

And the common

Mindset,

To reach high

Toward the sky

And uniformity

In Contrast

The days stretch on

In sun and shade,

Highlighting the contrast

To the lifespan of

A butterfly,

Its new wings splayed

In the warmth

To dry.

And I wonder

What the ancient rock thinks,

In contrast,

Of the human

Lifespan

Fleeting by.
