The Orbiter

The sun took her leisure.

It was, after all, the longest day.

She could, till the next time,

Meander

Just a little bit

Across the sky.

Peering down at the blue marble

She raised a ray to salute

The tiny orbit.

Odd,

That one,

In how it keeps questioning

Why.

Blue Earth

On this Earth Day

As we are all

One,

Cooped in

Holding on,

Blue around the fingertips

Blue around the lips,

Blue in oceans, and

In the reflections of the deep,

Blue in sorrow

Blue as sky lift

Dark sapphire

To the reified aqua

Of hope.

May we rise

Like the sun,

And not forget how

We can

Help each other

Cope.

Or Not

The sun will warm

Again

Or far

Too hot.

The water that sustains

Will flood

Again

Or not.

The tenet that prevails

Remains:

This magic of a planet

To protect

We ought,

Or an ultimatum

Spurred by greed

With life as

Afterthought,

Will render what we

Know

And what we for our

Children hoped,

Into a disaster

We had let be

Bought.

Earth’s Crescendo

As night gives way to day

And rain to sunshine

In cycles of expected

Understanding,

May we not forget

How our steps and deeds

Feed the beat of storms

Intensifying

Spur the crush of waves

Amplifying

Augment the tremors of fault lines

Magnifying

In

Earth’s crescendo,

Notifying.

Soul of Soil

Do not soil the soul of soil

With harm

And hatred.

Do not foul the loam of life

By sowing death.

Walk gently on the earth

That holds the lot of us.

All water that flows on

And under

Has flown everywhere

Before

Belongs to no one

More.

Do not soil the soul of soil

With war.

It is unholy.

Antithetical

To growth.

It stains all harvest

Red

With tears

And broken hearts.

Enriches only

Pain

And sorrow’s scars.

True stewardship

Demands

We find

Uphold

Maintain

A common ground.
