Blessed be the heat
Of fire
Fed by wood
That held on
To the driven strength of home.
Let air
Breathe through
The flames
That will allow warmth
To the water
While the earth
Hammocks your body
And your eyes
Address heaven’s stairs.
For the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: Five Elements
What a stunning photo of the fire. I love your poem, so beautifully expressed of these five elements. Thank you very much for sharing!

Thank you, Crispina.
One of the things I love about sitting by the fire at night (rarely though I get to do so), is the connection to time before time and the present time and all the time that will be … and the basics of elemental comforts. It really can get as simple as that, can’t it?

I know what you mean. I find it easiest to connect, back and forther, through time when I’m walking through countryside where my ancestors walked. There’s a footpath I use which connects two villages (by road is miles more to travel), and in the late 1770s my father’s several-times grandfather walked that path (which then was a cart-track) to marry his love. I had no idea many of my ancestors came from this area when I moved here.

A wonderful poem and story – together with a warming photo. The last four lines had me reading again and again. Loved it.
