Glinting Sigh

As the light

Breathes the day

Into soon coming night

And the city spreads

Molten gold sighs

Of beauteous delight,

The sky paints

Warm reflections

Of the time just gone by

Onto glinting canals

Rocking calm lullabies.

Ode to Pests

For the pests

Who won’t rest

In their quest

To infest:

I suggest

You divest

Lest

I’ll wrest

Back my nest.

I don’t jest

It is best

As would surely attest

The unblessed

Who’d transgressed

And I had ‘addressed.’

Life can happen in the shallows

Of the day to day

In the ebb and flow

Of small steps

On wet sand

Of tidy tides

And ripples

Lapping breaths

And sighs

Of surf.

Soul of Soil

Do not soil the soul of soil

With harm

And hatred.

Do not foul the loam of life

By sowing death.

Walk gently on the earth

That holds the lot of us.

All water that flows on

And under

Has flown everywhere

Before

Belongs to no one

More.

Do not soil the soul of soil

With war.

It is unholy.

Antithetical

To growth.

It stains all harvest

Red

With tears

And broken hearts.

Enriches only

Pain

And sorrow’s scars.

True stewardship

Demands

We find

Uphold

Maintain

A common ground.

Edible Blessing

May you find ample nourishment

In unforeseen places

And may your palate discern

True potential

Even amidst

Prickly spines.

May the sun warm your heart

Like a rain in the desert

To ripen fruits so refined

That they feed

All your needs

And your soul

Once again

Realigns.

Your Music

Find the string of life

That thrums within you

And play your music –

Bold or timid

Loud or soft,

It is unlike any other

Ever heard

Yet

As eternal

And familiar

As the beat that drums

Inside all living

Chests.
