What thoughts are swathed
Under your wrap?
What life
What pain
Your brows speak of?
Your eyes avert
But hearts respond:
You’re seen
You’re heard
Becloaked or not.

Do not be fooled to think
That clouds combed
Into neat white lines
Mean that the artful skies
Have suddenly
Turned tame.

Believe we can.
Believe we will.
Believe the way is there
Still,
To achieve.
Believe good lasts.
Believe hearts care.
Believe compassion
Matters,
Everywhere.

As the surface of the water
Licks the surface of the sky
The depths of both
Stay hidden
Under aquamarine alibis.

There’s a brilliance
To the cosmos
That shines brighter than
All stars.
An artistry
To nature’s glory
That far exceeds anything
I can actually
Understand.

In spite of crowded quarters
There evidently is a draw
To hanging
One’s own nest
In environs of unquestioned
Popularity.

You are no accident.
This time.
This place.
Your presence is
If not pre-ordained
Then an absolute responsibility,
Manifesting
With each moment
Every action
Of said and unsaid,
In a remarkable
Synchronicity
For opportunity
And fate.

Every day I am reminded
How very partial I am
To the multitudes of
Living things
Upon this Earth.
They are all part of me
Just as I am part of all.
You see,
Our air has been
A zillion times recycled
Through innumerable breaths.
Each drop of water has been
In every ocean
Swam in every river
Rained on every land.
Molecules have merged into our very selves
From all that is around us.
Life has birthed and died and birthed
Repeatedly
So many times
That we are indeed
Essentially
Not just of one planet
But all One.

At the turn of seasons
As days give in to added night
And cool air infiltrates
The warmth of sun,
A leaf’s goodbye.

In the mighty desert
Old times loom.
Layers of crushed history
Pressed by ancient rain
By ash and mud
Bones and sand.
Carved craters
Cleaved by flaming travelers
Hurling from
Beyond the sun.
Pressed down eras
Sandwiched by eternity
And painted
In primordial
Deposits:
Iron
Copper
Lime.
