A Morning’s Weave

As Sun rose

In the east

It darned

A web of light upon

The leaves,

And sprinkled gold on

Spiders’ orbs

That dangled from

The eaves.

The artist watched the dawn

And breathed.

For though her heart

Believed,

She knew her fingers

Do not have the skill

To tessellate this wonder

Into the mosaic that

Her soul

Perceived.

Eyes Aglow

In the window

Reflected

Shine from times long

Ago,

As the fire

Resplendent

Warmed cold hands from the

Snow,

And kids’ eyes

Filled with wonder

Twinkled joy in the

Glow.

Elders, too

Filled with stories

Even they’re yet to

Know.

Lights aglow

Hope aflow.

Bright light shines

Onto poles

As egrets call

And small hands

Hold

Sight to

Behold.

Perfect View

“There!” Angelo pointed.

“There what?” Payton panted

“There if you bother to lift your head.”

Payton scowled but was more occupied with getting oxygen into his lungs than wasting it on responses. He was sure that Angelo-The-Braggadocio had set the punishing pace deliberately to get him gasping. Not everyone climbed mountains for recreation!

The stitch in his side finally subsided enough to allow him to remove his fists from his thighs and straighten to take in the “amazing vista” Angelo had promised.

Dense fog. Vague tree tops. Milky air.

“There goes nothing,” Payton grouched.

Angelo chuckled and the saturated air softened the sound into something almost vulnerable.

Payton glanced at his friend. Glanced again. Was the wet on Angelo’s cheeks mist or liquid feelings?

“It is the perfect view,” Angelo murmured, his oft guarded face as open as a child’s. “To be inside Big Sky is to revisit Heaven.”

There’s a brilliance

To the cosmos

That shines brighter than

All stars.

An artistry

To nature’s glory

That far exceeds anything

I can actually

Understand.

Find beauty in the awkward,

Find beauty where you thought

Find beauty in the merry,

Find beauty in the places

Find beauty in the softening

Green Magic

Small child in tight braids under sticker-emblazoned helmet, hands holding on to pink scooter handles, stands at park’s entry: “Mommy, see the trees!”

Mom (typing one-handed on smartphone while pushing the child’s scooter with the other): “Yes, honey, very nice.”

“MOMMY!”

Mom, still on automatic: “Don’t yell, sweetie. I’m right here.”

The kid glances upwards, stamps: “No you’re not.”

Slightly startled, Mom looks up. Frowns, puzzled.

“You in the phone!”

Quick blush. “Sorry hon. I had to return that email real fast.”

“But you missing the best part! Look at the trees, Mommy! They didn’t have leaves and now they have green magic all over! The green magic won!”

Take a look outside!

Take a walk. Find a bench. Breathe in spring.

And you’ll see … just how right:

The green magic made a most magnificent entry.

Luxuriously verdant

It utterly, certainly, brilliantly won!

Find the Unexpected

Today, find something unexpected. Learn a fact you did not know. Claim a new piece of knowledge or practice a new skill. Watch an animal you’ve never seen before. Read a bit of trivia that surprises, gives a chuckle, raises eyebrows, tickles curiosity for more.

Today, practice the experience of wonder.

Today, remember what it was–can be like, often is–to be a child.
