As the shadows lengthened
At the end of day,
She paused,
Reflecting,
On the direction
Of her way.

Stop to breathe,
Take in ease,
Back to bark in
Summer breeze.
Shadow’s cool
City’s still,
In the park
Time to chill.
For the Sunday Stills challenge: Stillness

Photo: Na’ama Yehuda
Silver water rides small ripples
On the rise and fall
Of light,
As the clouds,
Heavily burdened,
Hold the rain
Till dark
Of night.

It’s a steep climb
For sure
But he feels
The allure.
This rock face,
This cliff,
He can’t help think,
“What if?”
It’s a very high
Wall,
And he’s a penguin
And small,
But he’ll attempt
Still
To scale,
And he intends
To not fail!

They push up
Through cold ground
Where morning frost
Still abounds
And color
The park
So a new spring
Can spark.
(Not quite this year’s spring photo … yet – this one being from early spring in 2017 – but it nonetheless infuses hope for soon-to-be cousins of these blooms enlivening the park!)
For Terri’s Sunday Stills: Spring

Photo: Smadar Halperin-Epshtein
Gather ’round the rocks
As daylight lingers
Onto land,
And sunlight’s fingers
Tickle children
In windowed shade
And sun.
Gather ’round the City’s park
To frolic
As Spring comes,
And as the promise
Of green growth
Comes closer
Dawn by dawn.
(While today is the Spring Equinox, the photo itself is more promise than reality … for the trees in Central Park are yet to bud and green, but soon they will … and so the photo holds a sight near to be seen …)

Ripples speed
With the breeze
Whipping small waves
With ease
On the surface
Of these
Waters guarded
By trees.

For those whose backyards
Exist
In novels, history
And lore,
Central Park is a
Greatly
Essential
Outdoors.
For Nancy Merrill’s Photo A Week challenge: The great outdoors

Take your time
As you climb.
Hold the rail.
Breathe in. Exhale.
On the stair way
Of life
Steps of joy
Steps of strife.
Both the rise
And descent
Are energies
Quite well spent,
As long as your heart
Can extend
To see a tad
‘Round the bend.
