Rock Gathering

Central Park Rocks SmadarHalperinEpshtein

Photo: Smadar Halperin-Epshtein

Gather ’round the rocks

As daylight lingers

Onto land,

And sunlight’s fingers

Tickle children

In windowed shade

And sun.

Gather ’round the City’s park

To frolic

As Spring comes,

And as the promise

Of green growth

Comes closer

Dawn by dawn.

(While today is the Spring Equinox, the photo itself is more promise than reality … for the trees in Central Park are yet to bud and green, but soon they will … and so the photo holds a sight near to be seen …)

I See A Pattern

Staircase1 PhilipCoons

I see a pattern

In these stairs:

In carpets’ weave

In craft-men’s squares,

In how the landings

Spin and dip,

With railings poised

To let hands grip,

In void that carries

Gaze to floor,

And legs that wish

To climb no more.

Rise above

Hardship’s fray

In gentle curls

Of delicate

Pink,

And an underbelly

Of powerful

Orange

Smelted from the

Brink.

Tea Time

In the mood for some tea?

Come along here with me.

There are pooch pots

And kitsch pots

Elephant tea pot, too.

There’s a cow,

There are cats,

Which will be right for you?

Blue thoughts on Yellow

mirrored karenforte

In middle school the uniforms

Were yellow tops and blue skirts

For the girls,

Yellow tops and blue slacks

For the boys.

The hue of yellow

In the official

Button downs,

Was a pale shade that made

Even the ruddy

Cheeks of children

Wash out

In the sun.

I used to think perhaps

This was the only color

Merchants had on overstock

When the school had first opened:

A fabric rescued

After years of fade brought on

By being forgotten

By everyone.

Oh, it was a decent enough school,

With friends I have kept

In touch with since the

Beginning of Sixth Grade.

It was the yellow hue

That had me blue.

Decades passed

And while

The beauty and the range

Of it in nature

Does indeed move me to tears,

I’m yet to own

A yellow garment

Even after

All these years.

Peas in a Pod

Like peas in a pod

They await

The day’s show.

Friends in flowers

And costumes

They’re alike

Yet I know,

Their hearts sing

Unique songs

I would like

To hear so!

Monochrome Mountain

But for lines

On a rock

Guiding one

To take stock,

Eyes may strain

To discern

What is feed

What is fog

What is flock

What is dog.

Got Wheels

In a mountain village

By a wooden slide

A plastic trike

Awaits a ride.

For a playground isn’t

Fully sound

Without some wheels

To go around.
