Half-wildling
Half-tame
She sometimes
Knew her name.
One moment she’d hiss
The next she would purr
To allow or dismiss
You from stroking her fur.

A trick elicits grins by design
But the smirks are clear sign
Of those who won’t admit
The high cost of deceit.

There’s a path in the park
Lined by mulch from trees past
So that every step presses
What had grown,
What won’t last.

Be it under
Or over
Be it florid
Or plain
It is best to not whelm
With ill-deeds.
Just refrain.

Where the green spikes grow tall
And the artichoke blossoms
You just know that the future
Will taste pretty awesome.

Not all that splashes
Is worthy
Not all that glitters
Is gold
Beware those
In deepening swamps
Who won’t ethics uphold.

In all of life’s rides
Good perspective is gold
And it’s wise to remember
That the top half
Revolves.

He’ll meet her at the exhibition at Noon, he’d promised.
“You’ll see. Twelve on the dot.”
“Like Cinderella?” she had joked.
“Sort of.”
She scanned the crowds, the balconies, the empty domes that rose above like marble skies.
Laughter echoed. People milled around.
She checked her watch again.
It had inched, traitorous, well past twelve o’clock.
Like Cinderella with no fairy godmother, she thought.
Never should have eaten that pumpkin Sam had bought.

Unbeknownst
To anyone
Pain stripped her bare
Inside her mind.
She put on a brave face
And smiled
So no one see
What hid behind.
But how I pray
She understands
She’s not alone:
Hope’s here to find.

There is no need to bludgeon
To clobber
To hammer it home.
Butting heads is cathartic
But leaves no one informed.
Get points across kindly
For effective reform.
