All potential unfurls from the bud.

When a place of worship crumbles
Into hell of gore and pain,
And the sorrows of the many
Become what connects us all again,
Know that care can conquer ugly
And that compassion outdoes hate’s disdain,
As long as we eject terror
To heed the better, deeper call,
That anything that harms our kinship
Diminishes the very core of all,
Just as anything that builds it
Can lead humanity to standing tall.

As one year draws to close
And another gets set to rise,
Take a snapshot of your heart
In its joy and woe alike.
As moments tick toward the new,
Remove blinds from your weary eyes,
And let Soul show you who
You’ve been when you were wise.
It will revisit steps you took
So you can plan the next,
And hold the images of good,
For New Year’s light to reflect.

I will leave the light on
For you and those still lost.
I will leave the light on
For nights when stars hide most.
I will leave the light on
Even if some say I’m wrong.
I will leave the light on
So you know that you belong.
I will leave the light on
During storms and gale and snow.
I will leave the light on
Just so you see and know.

As night
Folds wings
Of gray,
Pink sky
Herald glory
Of today.
For the September Squares and Six Word Saturday challenge
Special thank you to my dear friend Karen Forte, for THIS DAY’s (literally) gorgeous beginning.

She could not believe her eyes
As the path forked into surprise
And the end of trail became
Just step one into the game
Long the day stretched on ahead
Hours left for them to tread.

A basalt creek after the rain
Where mountains spewed onto the plain
Cold lava rock there still remains
The base for what’ll grow again.

Six words are not quite enough
For me who lengthy rhymes adore
So instead of words to doff
I’ll celebrate with six times four.
