Even In The Blackest!

Even in the blackest night

There’s hope

In sight,

There’s light.

As addendum to this prompt I want to add news of amazing breakthrough research that is offering tangible hope to people with spinal cord injuries, who till now may have had little light at the end of their dark tunnels. Who knows — soon they may be able to get up again and walk!

Scientists use stem-cells to make paralyzed rats walk again!

(I’m doubly excited for this remarkable news because the co-leader scientist in this research, Professor Shulamit Levenberg, is my sister!)

Egret Regret

Some photo challenges are worth more than one dip into the creative well … And this week’s Glow deserves a second-helping. Here comes:

I love this photo of egrets in the emptied fishpond near my sister’s house. The palm sentinels in the background, marking a line between sea and dug up sand. The birds congregating at the end of day in the shimmery wet portion of the pond, pecking for what small critters and flying insects can be found. How some egrets linger, forlorn, over the exposed bits, perhaps waiting for a change of tide. Are they harking for the times just passed, when their ‘lake’ glittered with fins? Are they holding out hope — as water, and alas, not sparkling scales, reflect the soon departing sun — for better days and the return of plenty to dine on?

Set Free!

Set free the light that’s in your eyes

The dreams you birthed

But hid

In fear of failure.

Set free the path yet to unveil

The hopes

The awe

The wonder.

Walk tall into the day to come

Dance free toward your

Future.

Not Irrelevant

Do not let anyone tell you

That kindness

Is a privilege

For other times.

Do not let anyone convince you

That truth

Is peripheral

To the necessity of

Getting some things done.

Do not let anyone berate you

That hope is

Irrelevant

And you are somehow

Weak

For holding on

To empathy, veracity, civility, belief.

They are all

Relevant.

Especially

Now.

Recreate 101

Recreate not what shouldn’t have happened

Yet had

But what should have taken place

And hadn’t

Or not quite as planned,

The seeds of which

Hold promise

To what may truly be

Worth recreating

When time

Once more

Comes around.

Hold up those who are too small

So they, too, can have a view

And visibility.

Hoist up those who are too timid

Or are silenced

So they, too, can have a voice

And secure platform.

Elevate the discourse

On behalf of those

Who had forgotten

Or had become accustomed

To degraded declarations,

And so can use a gentle template

How.

Offer a hand to those most in need

Of a perspective

So they may see

Broader horizons

For understanding

Not just might

But heart and mind.
