Towering scape
The reservoir
Invites a pause,
A breath of calm
Escape.

The key to every
Good adventure,
And a day out
To sights see,
Is a how to prevent a
Misadventure
By finding a good place
To pee.
(Note: I know I took some liberty … with the concept of “the key” … And, yes, I’ve used the photo before, but sometimes you just got to have another ‘go’ … 😉 )

Life without
Possibility
Of parole.
Robbed of
Freedom.
Wingspan clipped
To the lock
At the end of
A chain
Of events.
Imprisoned
Without fault
But the adversity
And sorrow
Of its birth.

I’d planned something else
But
Instead,
This pretty bird
Over
My head
Chirped my
Concentration
To bed.

Bright light shines
Onto poles
As egrets call
And small hands
Hold
Sight to
Behold.

May the words wrap
Around you
In shade and in
Sun.
May a book grab
Inside you
To where stories
Abound.
May good tales sustain
Your
Every heartbeat
And sound.
May you find space
Aplenty
To create
Reading time.

How many did these laboriously
Hewed walls
Close in on
As they trudged endlessly
With buckets laden
And arms weighted
Up and down
And up and down again
For more?
How many did they shelter
Under siege
Of catapults and
Rusted arrows
As the walls shuddered
Dust
Onto the bitten lips
And rounded shoulders
Of those crouched below?
How many hastened feet
Did these walls keep secrets for
Under the cover of
Night
And sentries’ snores
As lovers met
In darkened corners
To remember
Life before?

“Come on Daddy, let us go
To the great outdoors
And so,
Pack this rock in
And that, too.
I’m all set
And so should you!”

At the edge of the day
Nestled flush
With the bay,
Light will dance
As it may
To invite you
To stay.

Take the trail
Up the path
To where spring
Flows through minds,
And where fairies
Inspect
Those whose feet
Trail behind.
Listen on
To the leaves
Speaking tales
To the trees,
And to elves’
Rustling limbs
As they flit
In the breeze.
Dedicated with love to Dee, whose trail now flows wholly through realms beyond this physical one.
