Make a River

Make this rivulet

Of hope

Into a river

Of change.

Let a movement

For kindness

And the trickle

Of sooth,

Become a wave

Blue and wide enough

To hold the full depths

Of what should have always been

Self-evident truths.

In most wretched times

When wrongdoers invade

Do not yourself turn

Echo chamber for knaves.

For the blight

Of untruth

And the stain

Of disdain

Can quite easily infect

Those who would not

Take heed from similar

To abstain.

As the gavel rises

To speak justice

Let the rule of law

Preside,

So not even an executive

Who feels they own

The rights for pride,

Can by claims of faux and fury

Dismiss

What they would rather hide,

When truth well knows

By sheer behavior

Schemes and snide,

That he had far too often

Lied

And it is past time he be

Tried.

Hold Up

It is alright

To pause,

To stop,

To dial back the crush

Of too chaotic

Stuff.

Hold up.

It won’t disrupt

Your pace of life,

If you let in a slower breath

That fills your lungs

With calm,

Instead of huff

And puff.

Fickle Fury

In the furor of fury

Frothing rage

At the truth,

Do not let floods

Form furrows

In foundations of sooth.

Let the foam

Ferry falsehoods

Like the filth film

From swamps,

And find footholds

In facts

Against fear flashing

Tromps.

Antidote

There are whispers

In the Ether,

Toxic stories meant

For loss of hope.

They are phantoms.

Do not listen as

Malignant news

Grabs scope.

Find instead

The breath of valor.

Seek the children,

Help them cope.

Hold up truth,

Unfurl your kindness

To withstand

Slithery slopes.
