Trees will soon
Heed the call
To dress leaves
To enthrall
In the glorious
Ball
Foretelling cold
Yet to
Fall.

There was a small patch
Of pink
In the large sea
Of green.
Flowers with
Heads together
Like bouquets
Fit for a queen.

What will be
Of the day,
He so wanted
To say,
If you suddenly
Drain
All the color away?
Will the birds’ calls
Remain?
Will leaves still
With wind sway?
Will it be
As before
Or fade wholly
To gray?

If you’ve a parcel
To post
Or a letter
To hurry,
There’s a zip line
Ahead
So please
Do not tarry …

There is plenty
Not amusing
For this bovine
To project,
When she’s placed
Right where her cousin
Is being served
As steak.

Reaching high to the heavens
Rising up
To the sky
A single rose of remembrance
Captured by a
Child’s eye.
So we pause for the many
Hate had barreled
To die,
And remember the courage
Of all who
Violence defy.

One does not need a plan
To get lost
In this new town
She thought
Right before
She did.

There’s much more to New York City
Than the bustle of Times Square
But “The Crossroads of the World” is quite likely
Recognizable anywhere.
Even the New York Police Department
Is fittingly lit in neon lights
Its bold, large letters dwarfed by billboards
That chase the day into the night.

Summer afternoon
Where city hum
Turns breath of waves
And
Children’s voices
On the surf.

A pick up?
Jeep duplex?
A jacuzzi inside?
This hybrid is
A heck
Of an over-decked
Ride.
