Come on friend
We will walk
On this sand
To the end
Of the earth
And return
Just before
A new night
Falls again.

Climb the mountainous
Martian landscape,
Big wheels strong
In the sandbox.
Come and rescue
The poor shovel,
Buried amidst alien
Rocks.

Come on Sis
Let us peek
Through the slats
On this bridge
At the world
That flows through
Underneath
Me and you.

Grandpa you can’t
See me hidden
In my batman cave,
But try to find me:
There’s a world
To save.

“I can almost touch the moon!” she swung her arms in exuberance as the ride reached its apex and the spinning accelerated.
“I can almost touch last week’s dinner,” her sister croaked a white-knuckled response.

I have all that I need:
My bag on my back,
Soother to help me accede,
Favorite hoodie,
Warm sleeves,
My baby tucked in carrier
Cozy and fast asleep.
I think all is ready.
Now we can leave.

Side by side
Nose to fence
They stand in awe
And suspense:
Here’s a duck
There’s a mouse.
Is the red thing
Their house?
What do animals
Eat?
Not small children?
Just treats?
From their safe
Vantage point
The zoo does not
Disappoint.
And they admire
The goose
Glad its not
On the loose.

I will go, Big Brother
To the end of the earth
After you.
In spite of fear
I will try to repeat
All you do.
But I’ll still
Just in case
Reach for
And draw courage
From you.

My pink shoes are a mess
But I’m in no distress.
I have been in the dust
For elephants it’s a must.
I’m a fierce one, you see
Will you come play with me?

It is the cookie that she wants
No teddy bear, no owl, no bunny.
It is the cookie that she holds
In hand, not in her tummy.
She takes it with her to the park
She holds it all through bedtime story.
She’d bring it right into the bath
To her it’s mandatory.
Her mother sighs
Because she knows:
It is the cookie that will crumble
All over blanket, sheets, and pillow.
The cookie that she’ll have to pry the last remains of
From her child’s hand tomorrow.
