In the cold blur of morning
Atop a bare, frigid slope
Here’s to friendly warmth brewing
And a good view to scope.

Light reflects
Days to nights
As old times
Watch new heights.
Ancient stone
Understands
Stories fought
Upon sands.
Waves recall
Rise and fall
Of the ebb
And the flow
Of times come
And times go.

The sun
Has barely peeked out
Yet blooms have
Sprung up
Overnight
In rush to fuel
Nectar
With light.

Fledgling stories
Flap immature wings
In my mind,
Inchoate plots
I don’t yet
Understand.
They unfurl
Like the leaves
From a still tight closed bud –
A surprise
For the growth
That awaited
Inside.

In places too many
On this one blue-green ball,
Children haul
More than the weight of firewood
On their backs,
Big or small.
Sorrow, loss, illness, agony
Needs unmet
Unheard calls …
Yet they are all
Our children,
Their pain is our
Shortfall.
They are worthy of better:
In the now
For the future
For humanity’s long haul.

At the weakened
Frigid hand
Of winter’s last stand,
Nibbles
The warm promise
Of summer sun.

Let mouth corners
Up and curl.
Let merriment
Gently unfurl.
That’s all
It takes
For smiles
To pearl.

In the winds
Of turmoil,
Hold on tight
Don’t recoil.
For all change,
Churn and roil,
Shapes the earth
Feeds the soil.

Explore the vistas
Still unseen
Below the concepts
Left to grasp
As depths of thoughts
Plumb deep
The mind
And Spirit knows
What to redeem.

The little lamp
Refused to go.
Morning or no
It dug its toe
And held on glowing
In the snow.
