Aglow

Australia Shulamit2

Beaches with sprawling, gentle surf are among my favorite things in the world. Long, shallow waves that coat expanses of sand evoke an instant relaxation response in me, and this glowing photo taken in Australia is no exception. The light on the water deepens the magic and transports me to time before time and this very moment in time, where the steady breath of the ocean pulses the very heartbeat of Earth and moon and sun.

Mighty Layered

In the mighty desert

Old times loom.

Layers of crushed history

Pressed by ancient rain

By ash and mud

Bones and sand.

Carved craters

Cleaved by flaming travelers

Hurling from

Beyond the sun.

Pressed down eras

Sandwiched by eternity

And painted

In primordial

Deposits:

Iron

Copper

Lime.

Sweet Nothings

a spot of shade

Photo: Na’ama Yehuda

In the constant feed of drama

And five-minute-news of all-that’s-wrong

And all that must be done

And all that cannot yet

Or won’t be,

Seek a spot of shade

And a penchant for deep breathing.

Nurture moments of quietude

Of birdsong

Children’s laughter

And the breeze whispering

Sweet nothings to your soul.

Infinitely Finite

Within the infinite expanse

So immeasurably borderless

In perpetual ebb

And flow

And breath

And glow,

There hides

The implausible

Yet glaringly finite

Reality

That it too

Is delimited

By wind

And storm

And distant shores.

Wait a Minute!

I love the tension captured in this photo of partially camouflaged Nubian Ibex. This “wait a moment!” stare-at-the-camera image was taken in the fraction between the two does realizing the human’s proximity and them springing away.
