Layer by layer
They go back
In time,
Descending through eras
They can carefully
Climb.
What whispers
What stories
Does the wadi
Impart?
Will their souls see
The footprints
These rocks know
By heart?
For the Tuesday Photo Challenge: Layer
Wonderful!

Yay hurray!
Only caution in such wadis is to make sure to check the forecast and NEVER go into them when it rained (even if it rained the day before). Best to go during the dry season altogether. Floods are a real danger, with literally no place to hide. Fantastic to hike through, though!

Oh man… that must be horrendous when it rains… Not that I would consider it.

Yes. Last year a school in Israel ignored weather warnings and took a group of 18 year olds out on a desert hike (it had stopped raining but it had rained the day before and there were flood warnings). This wasn’t even in a narrow wadi like the one in the photo, but 25 kids were swept away. 10 died.

That’s an excellent take on the challenge. I really enjoyed your poem.

Thank you, Suzanne! I’ve always found the notion of going ‘down’ in time (geologically and archeologically speaking) to be a fascinating adventure. 🙂

Wow!
You just described what I feel in such places in the most simplest way I may not be able to say myself. Very amazing 🙂

Thank you, Hammad! I think many of us share the feelings of awe and contemplation in such places. 🙂 Glad what I wrote resonated! Na’ama
