A Time’s Tome

There are tales in the making

Some so long, one might fear

Hope will drown in the swamps

Where the truth disappears.

But other tomes are unfolding

That the soul aches to hear:

Of corruption that ended

As justice grew near.

When corruption reaches levels

That even present swamps

Cannot contain

There comes a time

To open windows

And expel the source of pain.

Wrongly Assumed

He assumed he was right.

He assumed you were wrong.

He believed bullish bluster equated with

Strong.

He refused to consider

Prejudice

Lies

Pretense.

He demanded complete admiration

Instead.

He assumed he would lead.

He assumed you will follow.

He may well find himself quite lonely

Tomorrow.

“Make Me Disappear”

“Make me disappear,” she said,

As her eyes pleaded to be seen.

“I don’t care anymore,” she said,

As her voice begged to be heard.

The bruises on her skin long faded

But the wounding in her heart remained

Unhealed

Unchanged.

“I want to not be anymore,” she said.

But it was pain and the isolating loss of shame

She needed to erase,

Not life itself.

Glimmers of Hope

Even in chaos

Where foul mouths and ill deeds offer little beyond

Spin and mope,

You can find and define many glimmers

Of hope:

In the smiles of a child,

In the buds that push up from a freshly thawed ground,

In expanding delight of inquiring minds,

In the light that reflects from a window just shined,

In the wriggling joy of a pup under hand,

In humanity’s goals that your heart understands,

Your soul now demands,

And your words and your acts and your vote get behind.

Panic’s Anti-Dote

anti-dote

photo: dreamaker2.tumblr.com

There’s scare aplenty

Wide cause for alarm

A lot to frown at

Much that charters harm.

No wonder

Panic comes.

Trepidation pushes buttons of old worries

Latches through the tentacles

Of history

And ill-used charm.

It glitters daggers

Into

Masquerading stars and sun.

No wonder

Panic comes.

And yet …

Be brave

Stand firm

Lock arms

Form links

Knit facts

Raise voice

Weave hope

As panic’s anti-dote.
