“Come.” She said. She pulled him up and dried his face with the edge of her best dress.

“Where?” He hiccupped, too spent for sobs. Everything hurt.

“Away.” Her voice was soft but hard. “We’ll be miles from here by the time he wakes up.”

Things That Matter

Congregate

Around the things that matter:

The hopes of young

To grow old

Without being gunned down

By hate long fed.

The voices that have gone

Unheard

By overwhelming glower

And will no more be silenced

By greed or dread.

Congregate

Around those who stand proud

To challenge unjust power.

It is the coming together

Which will pave

New roads

For change.

Phantom Panacea

Do not insist

An action is not worthy

If it does not prevent

All woe.

Demanding a panacea

By claiming

Partial remedies contemptible,

Is a straw man argument

Meant to scare away

The very possibility

Of actual repair.

For The Daily Post

Peace

In this time of repeated violence, I find solace in the truths that do not fade, for they hold more substance than fleeting words, shoulder shrugs, denials, numbness, pretense, or calls for more violence as a ‘solution’ for the inordinate violence that’s already there.

Truths remain. Even in the face of the most urgent attempts to smother it.

In this time of sorrow and frustration, I am reminded:

“There is no way to peace.

Peace is the way.”

                                             (A. J. Muste)

And

“The person who says it cannot be done

should not interrupt the person doing it…”
