The Glorious Unfurling

Do not stifle

Truth

Or hope.

Hold fast the

Pieces

That were

In fear

Squelched back

Or were suppressed

By those pretending

To be

Righteous.

Let go.

Let be

The glorious unfurling

Of your being.

It is who you have been

Meant

To grow into

Before

And all along.

Loophole Lookout

When strolling down

The winding

Road

Of history

And conflit,

Beware of loopholes

Hiding

Spies

With

Less than helpful

Motives.

Look up

Look out

For any who

Proclaim

They own the path

To righteous.

Most likely they

Have arrows

Meant

To guarantee

Their profit.

Static In The Air

Never again7 OfirAsif

Photo: Ofir Asif

There is static in the air,

Discord at what can no longer

Remain unchallenged.

There’s a buzz

To hold accountable

The hate and prejudice that has no space

Among the truly civilized.

There is hope amidst the noise:

The march of feet and hearts

That will not stay silent

At disrespect and bullying.

The sparks of light

That multiply to pull aside

The medieval darkness

Some wish to blanket over progress.

There is static in the air.

It crackles with potential.

May it smother ignorance

With wisdom.

May it end violence

Through empathy

And tolerance.

P.S. Since several of you had contacted me to ask about the photo: my nephew took this photo at the Gas Chambers in Auschwitz. The staining on the ceiling is from the Zyklon B poison. I thought this photo was an apt backdrop for the evils of racism and why it cannot be allowed to rise, no matter where or against whom or by.

Higher Ground

sky is the limit

Photo: Osnat Halperin-Barlev

When some try to

Evoke

Vile contempt

Foul report,

There is much more

At stake

Than a furious

Retort.

Don’t fall prey

To miasmas of

Hate and closed minds.

Do not let lower standards

Become somehow enshrined.

Call it out.

Name it loud.

But refuse the dishonorable

As normed or allowed.

Choose to level

Above.

Give a hand.

Hold on tight.

To a firm

Higher ground.

Spill The Beans

Spill the beans

On what is

And never

Should’ve made

Secret.

Share the stories

You know

And others

Also

Have lived.

Find the balance

Between

Private stashes

Of sorrow

And the tender joys

To be had

In remembering

Both.

No Underdog!

Photo Marnie Russ

Little Roo. Photo: Marnie Russ

The runt of the litter. The smallest of smalls.

A birth’s afterthought. The last of the lot.

She was given some frowns.

She was given less hope.

She was not much to look at.

A long shot, underdog.

Yet inside her she had something fierce

At her core

She was never the winner

But she was something more:

She worked harder than hard

She learned patience from woe

She grew up,

She believed

She perceived and she saw,

She found footholds in smiles

She made steps from each praise

She climbed up rungs of hardship

Found her stride

Found her ways

To amaze.
