Clear as daylight.
A cradle rocking
On a treetop.
No baby.
Thank God.
Or was there?
Was the movement the wind,
Or a small living thing?
She felt her heart flutter in
A memory
Of falling.
Heard a rustle and shuddered.
Ran for the
Ladder.
Climbed.
Swallows nesting
In the cradle.
Wide open mouths.
A child’s toy
Flown off a balcony.
Made home.
For Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt of Treetop in 63 words
And now I am singing the nursery rhyme!
Wonderfully done, Na’ama.

🙂 Thank you my friend! I’ve been kind’a absent for a bit again. This one (and a bit of free time) reeled me in … 😉
I remember seeing a doll’s stroller swinging on a tree after falling from a balcony and getting snagged in the upper branches. No birds’ nest that I could see … but who knows … This prompt reminded me of it … 🙂

Hey, yanno… life and all that!
Oh my goodness! So NOT based on the nursery rhyme!
I shall get back to mine (because, yes, I also am inspired to play this one…)
But first. Must shovel. Again. Sigh.

Oy … poor shoveling you! I’ll be on the lookout from the treetops … for your treetop piece … 😉 (I’ll show myself out …)

You two! 🙂
I liked this, Na’ama. I can see it happening exactly as you poemed it.
Well done.

🙂 Glad you liked, Bill! 🙂
(also, if you are referring to Dale and I … I plead eternal nuttiness … at least on my end … 😉 )

Like Dale, I too started singing that nasty nursery rhyme. I was so pleased to find there was no connection! Nice one, Na’ama.
