Yeah, it is my nephew in the photo … Truth is, I would probably be happy to do this, too! It’s the spinning and tossing and upside-down milk-shaking that bothers me in roller-coasters, not the height. Not sure my body would allow this kind of rappelling at this time in my life, but I did marvelously well, and only with small adaptations, in the jungle ziplines in Thailand … so going across in the air can’t be THAT harder than going down … 😉

I think it’s a desire to do something irreversible. My mother couldn’t carry a handbag across a bridge (she always gave it someone else to hold) cos she had a great urge to throw it into the water. The irreversible. I don’t claim to understand it, but I know it’s an impulse shared by many is various ways

I can certainly understand it, even if most of us don’t act on it, I think many of us have it, at least in some points in our lives.

And … it is a good thing to know what spots (e.g. bridges…) may be places to take special care to not do irreversible things we will regret …

As my mother would give her bag to someone else to hold, and I might stay away from the edge. Though less so now that I’ve no longer the height fear

Indeed! And … I’m glad you don’t fear heights anymore. It is a difficult fear to overcome or even manage.

I had a viral infection of the brain. I lost a lot of connections. Fully fine now (I think). But one of the things I lost was the fear of heights, not realised until my daughter remarked that I was walking along the edge of a cliff… I would never have done that! I was too scared to go up a step-ladder.

Yea. I could bore you with the full tale, but shan’t. Many, many benefits. But didn’t feel like it during the recovery.
