They took the temperature
Of the crowd,
And realized they could
Twist skeins of truth into
Great blobs of knotted lies,
Then sell
As remedy
To now a fevered mob,
A distorted gospel
Bloated with melodramatic
Sighs.
For Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt of: Temperature in 37 words

80 degrees of lies.

There ain’t no fiction in this one, my friend.
How they have become such experts at this is stupifying.
Well done!

Perhaps because there is a historical repetition of some whipping up a frenzy for distortion, in the name of devotion … I am reminded of neighbors burning neighbors at the stake “in the name of” their supposed God, with a messianic fervor no less jarring than what we see today. Or of sheet-wearing men lynching other human beings, under the guise (and in cowardly disguise) of morality, but for the sake of hate, violence, and power. And then I don’t wonder quite so much how. Perhaps some humans are attracted to being intoxicated by supposed superiority, at the cost of real morality. …

It goes back milennia…. all in the name of some god or another. The cowards (KKK-genre) are the biggest cowards.
There has to be some sort of feeling of power to squash another. Awful.

It is a distorted, lowest-of-the-low kind of ‘power’, but apparently some can’t feel ‘high’ enough unless they trample someone down in order to feel better about themselves… A sign of weakness, that.

It truly is. Power is lifting others up, not crushing them. But these people don’t understand (nor want to). Extremely weak.

Through time immemorial, perhaps, though amplified these days by the ease of mass-distortion and the ease of disseminating dissonance … oy …
