“Told you there’d be amenities!” Bob beamed.
Raquel looked around the campsite. Mud. Mess. And Misery. She bit her tongue. Only herself to blame. She should have known.
“When something is too good to be true, it is too good to be true,” her Ma always said. And of course, her Ma was (always) right.
Ma also told her that Bob was bad news, a bunch of trouble, and would never amount to anything.
True on all three counts.
She took a deep breath. She made her bed, and she was gonna lie in it. Even in a tent.

Oh dear. Some lessons are harder to learn than others!

And a muddier mess! 😉
Then again, how she gonna learn if she not make some of her own mistakes? At least bug bites heal and mud washes off … 😉

There is that. Some lessons are just messier than others! Hope he’s a nice guy, at least…

I actually have a feeling he’s exceedingly nice. Possibly even a bit innovative in how he addresses practical issues (case in point, he did build her ‘amenities’ for privacy …). So, who knows. Or, it may be a disaster … 😉 But I have me a feeling she’s gonna try to make it work, if only to not have her Ma’s “don’t say I didn’t tell you so!” 😉

I like to think he is not only nice and thoughtful, he will keep her life interesting!
Sorry, Ma. He is a good one!

Indeed! I don’t think this is exactly what she had in mind for a honeymoon …

Poor lady. Must’ve been so disappointing

And yet … she had to have some inclination that this is what it was going to be … Or, at least, should have! 😉 Who knows, maybe she’ll find her inner-hippy! 😉

I certainly hope they won’t be! I think they have a long way to go uphill, but at least they have “amenities” in the meanwhile! 😀

No chance of redemption or do-over? This is a stoic lady

Ha! I think maybe she sees something in him that goes beyond the things that her Ma pointed out, and perhaps those, for now, outweigh the shower tent and muddy outdoor loo … 😉

Feels like he’s trying, at least.

Na’ama Y’karah,
I can think of quite a few of those “Mom was right” aha moments. Lying in that bed’s not always easy, but does have certain rewards. Well done.

He seems caring enough, and I hope she’ll sleep well and that time will show her vindicated (and better housed)… Certainly better than endless “told you so”s from her Ma … which I suspect are sure to be a constant reminder. 😀

Maybe Ma isn’t right this time. Bob may be a keeper.

Me thinks maybe you are right, and Ma was wrong, and Bob is a keeper. 😀

Ouch. Hopefully she decides she’d be better off without him.

Indeed. Or …. that the adventure let them both learn more about each other, and she may realize that he went out of his way to try and make it as comfortable as camping could be for her. And anyplace after that is up … Who knows? 🙂

Hopefully, it won’t be forever. Some camping beds are great now, so I hear.

True! And very true! My sister and her family (6 kids) traveled and camped on the West Coast for several weeks nonstop last summer. They put up two large tents every night, and slept with sleeping bags over sleeping mats. They had a blast.
