“So nice of them to give us ice-cream!” Sheri grinned. It was her favorite brand, too. On a plane! How fun!
“Even people on death row get a last meal.”
She elbowed him. Her friends said Robert was a party-popper. A fuddy-duddy, spoil sport, malcontent. Sometimes she wondered if they were right. Her husband did have a way of deflating. She felt bad for him. Life must be so gray, to experience life his way.
“Well, I’m going to enjoy mine,” she announced, infusing extra-cheer into her voice. “If it’s my last course, I’ll be halfway up to heaven already.”

(Note: Thank you, Rochelle for using my potentially boring 16 hour direct flight photo from JFK to Hong-Kong from the summer before last … While this is not an ad, the ice-cream sure was a comfort … π )
Your photo isn’t boring because of the fascinating contrast between the ice cream tub and the dangerous sachet

I thought, so, too!!! (that’s why I used the word “potentially” … π – I hoped some would like that little contrast!)

Enjoy the ice cream and ditch Robert, so much negativity will kill you

Yeah, I think Sheri might need a bit of sherry if she stays much longer with him. Or … perhaps she’s impervious. That happens, too. I actually know a couple who I call “The Beauty And The Grinch.” π

Yay for all optimists, and all those who exert themselves to cheer up others! And that includes Sheri and you, for such an upbeat, cheering story!

Not boring at all, and now I understand some of the things in the background of the photo more clearly π Robert, however? Yeah. Boring.

Na’ama Y’karah,
Nice to know the history behind the photo. Thank you for the loan which sent me on the research trail to a happy discovery. π At any rate, there are few things worse than a joy-suck of a person. Nothing makes them happy and they can find the negative in anything to bring all around them down. Make mine chocolate chip cookie dough. Good one.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Well, I guess I’m with Sheri on the feeling-bad-for-them, but not so much with Sheri on the ‘hang-out-with-them’ … π
We had a choice of vanilla or strawberry. I guess there are limits to luxury on a bazillion hour flight … π

My mom says it takes all kinds to make a world. A world with endless cheer and sunlight would be unbearable to many, including myself. Your story is good in opening the dialogue on the subject.

We all have at least one “Robert” in our life or surroundings… I say don’t feed them anything they can “downify” and keep on enjoying yourself.
Thanks for the great photo, too!

Yeah! I concur. Let’em have the basics and if they want more, let’em look for it, whether they appreciate it or not … Meanwhile, enjoy all the loveliness the world’s got.

Sheri did marry Robert, so she must see something in him that’s not all bad. I imagine she’s an overly optimistic person, and they balance each other.
Thanks for the picture and clarification. I would not have guessed it was on an airplane.

“Half way to heaven.” I like that.
I like her attitude.
I thought the plane was going to crash. Your ending is better.

They do Haagen-Dazs on planes now!? Come on Robert – what’s not to like? π

They did on Cathay-Pacific two summers ago! π It made a lot of us very happy. π
Brilliant strategy, though. Small ice-cream portions take little room, and make a lot of passengers very pleased on a very long flight. Win-win … π

nobody’s perfect. he must have some redeeming qualities. otherwise, she wouldn’t have fallen for him.

Yep. I don’t think he’s evil. He may be drab but predictable. He might be a downer but not cruel. He could be honest (to a fault) and reliable and fair and … yeah, the fact he’s a wet blanket doesn’t need to mean he’s not good for her. Just that her friends don’t care for him. She seems to have empathy for him and she may know more about what made him the way he is that 100 words can convey. π

Hang on – you got quality ice cream served on an aeroplane? Wow!

I know!!! I was thinking perhaps it was a consolation prize for having to be stuck in the same airplane for a 16 hour direct flight … (18 hours in the plane all told, between boarding and getting to the gate…). π
It did help.

Opposites attract. My Hubby hates chocolate, so sad yet so good. I wished he hated ice cream too. Nice piece.

As for hating chocolate … it is hard to fathom, but then again, there’s a kid i know who hates it, too. Prefers broccoli. I think he’s an alien … π

Did you take Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong. They usually give Haagen-Dazs, which is a lovely way to fly. I was so excited when I flew Delta from HK to the US and got Dr. Pepper (or three)! It helped make the trip a little funner. Nice snippet of life. I have a somewhat “grumpy guss” for a husband, but we help each other see life through different lenses. Makes the journey more interesting for sure!

Yep! I was traveling to Thailand via Hong-Kong, and Cathay-Pacific had the best flight/deal – it was the first time I flew with them and I was quite pleased overall. And of course, there was ice-cream! π
I think that helping each other with one’s quirks and grouches and such is a good thing in a relationship. To know each other’s weaknesses and strengths and see beyond them, yeah. As for grouching about ice-cream — that’s no deal breaker, now, is it? π

Well, of course I have no quirks or downsides (hahahaha). Even given our differences, we cherish each other and enjoy life together (even when life can be a bit difficult). I’d love the beauty and warmth of Thailand about now. Hope you have a nice weekend! =)

Hahaha, yeah … I’m afraid I can’t say that about myself, for I’m CERTAIN there is a bathtub full of quirks with me … π And, accepting each other and enjoying life sounds like a good plan. π
Also, yeah, I’d be happy for some Thailand beaches right about now (though perhaps not with a 24 hour travel to precede it … Can someone tow Thailand a bit closer to NYC? π )

Sheri certainly has a nice way of looking at life (I didn’t know that airlines even serve ice cream on flights).
