Freckled

Spattered,

Scattered,

Splattered

Like galaxies

Of reversed light

Upon the expanse

Of skin.

Concentrated pigment

On the canvas

Of the body,

They speckle

Like stars

Reflected

In the negative of film.

Beloved,

They dance upon

The nose.

A freckled

Symphony

Of brown and gold.

  1. You began your quadrille so well with a list of three verbs that rhyme beautifully and evoke freckles without the word even being mentioned and then brought it to a crescendo with the simile:
    ‘Like galaxies
    Of reversed light
    Upon the expanse
    Of skin’
    and the metaphor:
    ‘A freckled
    Symphony
    Of brown and gold’.
