He will carve mountains
For them.
Slow but steady
In his pressure.
Relentless
In the calculated cold of his
Convictions,
That curl like tight fists
Under an unquestioning love.
He has carved himself
In the process,
Into valleys of sacrifice.
Carved them, too,
Into mirror images
To reflect the truths he holds.
He will carve mountains
For them,
Heavy-handed and doggedly
Protective.
Glacial with volcanic undertones.
For Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt: Glacial in 66 words
Na’ama Y’karah,
My guess is that ‘he’ who is doing the carving is a loving father, the exemplar to his descendants. Beautifully told.

Rochelle

Yes, the “He” here is a father (not my father, but perhaps many a father out there, biological or not), who loves to the best of his ability, in steadfast carving of himself – and shaping of the world around him, to the best of his ability – as an expression of his love. For not all loving fathers are the mushy kinds …
Thanks for reading and for the comment, Rochelle. This is a day where fatherhood in all it’s complex manifestation is certainly on one’s mind.
XOXO
Na’ama

Thank you, Crispina. Not all fathers are cozy or easy, not even those that are loving – in their own way. It is a complex thing, is it not?
