It was the hood that did it.
Toppled time.
She stood and stared. The store around her ebbed into a surf of sounds that no longer carried any meaning. The colors drained. Rainbow into monochrome.
Like the hood.
Devoid of dye. Just like Granny Gray’s.
Someone bumped against her arm, then tugged. A voice called. There must have been words. But they were drowned.
Like Granny Gray. When they had come for her.
Way back when. And in Greta’s dreams ever since she had taken on knitting.
“Like Granny Gray,” they said. “The child has the fingers. And the eyes.”

Is she dreaming? Dying? What an intriguing story!

Perhaps dreaming. Perhaps ‘revisiting’ history through the memories of her ancestor, who has apparently been persecuted. Perhaps a flashback of the dreams she’s been having. …

Seems like a dream almost. I like it.

Greta seems to have had Granny Gray’s gift passed down to her. I love the mysterious magical feel to your story.

A very evocative story and I liked how it took me in different directions with almost every stanza.
I don’t know if you have family back home but I hope everyone is safe.

And … love that you liked the little story!

I hope she escapes the fate of Granny Gray. I felt the dizziness of this story, and her confusion. Could definitely be the start of something longer.

Yes, I would like to think the times had changes and she will not suffer the same fate, even while being, perhaps, seen … Glad you liked! Who knows where that’ll go, eh?

Thank you for reading and commenting! The hood in that photo caught my eye … as it did hers … 😉

Feels like one of those “gifts” that get passed down through generations. I hope she stays safe and that she uses her gift wisely.

Lots of mystery in this, and lots of evocative phrases. I like ‘toppled time’, ‘a surf of sounds’, and so much more. Grea idea too – makes me want to know more. I’m thinking about who came for Granny Gray, and what the link is with Greta. Very good.

Na’ama Y’karah,
A dreamlike story. L’dor v’dor. She has the fingers.
And of course, my thoughts are with you at this time. I don’t understand such baseless hatred. Sending hugs.
Shalom,
Rochelle
