They didn’t know then
Or still
What track life will
Bring.
Yet they hold on,
By bootstraps
Hoping
For just enough breath with which to
Sing,
To the sun
That would rise,
To the hope
That would
Cling.
Till dawn will
Another story
String.
For dVerse Quadrille Poetry challenge
Sometimes that act of holding on is the only think you can do, and sometimes it’s enough.
Thank you for your thoughtful response to the prompt!

Thank you, Merril. Indeed, sometimes it is the only thing to do, and sometimes it is okay to have it be the only thing to do. I like Clarissa Pincola Este’s book take on “What is enough” – it can be eye opening. So many these days are holding on. And it is okay to know that it is how it is sometimes. Makes sense?

Beautifully expressed and I like the format of terse lines falling to “String”, just like a string itself. Hmm…

🙂 Yay! You got it! 🙂 I was wondering if my imagery will be communicated or was just a thread in my mind … 😉

I agree with Merril – sometimes all you can do is hold on and ride the wave. As you hold on, you hopefully gain the strength needed…
Beautiful quadrille.

Thank you, my friend! Yep, riding the wave is sometimes necessary. Hopefully with a raft. Better with a friend. But either way, ride we must! 🙂

Oh, if you can hang on WITH a friend, your chances of having the strength increases!
