She trudged up slopes in ice
And cold
The wind bent chilly fingers down
Her coat.
Till finally she saw
Up top
A cave indenting
Ancient rock.
She crawled in,
Grateful,
To take stock.

Wonderfully done, my friend.

Thank you, my friend! 🙂 Here’s to finding refuge whenever we need it.

Now that’s what a cave should be, a cosy place to rest or for respite from bad weather. I’ve just read a lot of creepy writes with this prompt so yours is a relief! 😀

Ah, I’m so glad this was a respite in of itself … 🙂 Caves get a bad rep, though for millennia they helped provide a shelter and a home for many a human and still do to many living beings. 🙂

Absolutely. I’m sure they’re incredibly atmospheric spiritual places. You’re in the pocket of the earth after all.

“In the pocked of the earth” sounds about right. 🙂

Very beautiful. I could picture it in my mind’s eye, the relief on her face.

I’m so glad you liked it. I think we are ‘programmed’ to recognize the relief of searching for and reaching a safe/safer haven. 🙂

A place of shelter for her and many before I’m sure.

Oh, yes, this is well done. Sent songs to my ear,
“If I don’t get some shelter
Ooh yeah I’m gonna fade away”
from ‘Gimme Shelter’ (The Rolling Stones); also,
from the Eagles’ ‘Lyin’ Eyes’ the more metaphorical line,
“I guess every form of refuge has its price.” 🙂

Very true on both accounts … I bet … for those who walk around seeing some shelter … 🙂
