“Stop the car!”
Milly hit the breaks and hid her smile. They’d wondered how long it would take Pappy to notice what they’d done.
Only two days … Which meant she won the bet and Ben will be raking leaves all autumn.
When Pappy climbed back into the vehicle, there was wetness on his cheeks.
“Your doing?” he whispered.
“And Ben’s.”
It had taken considerable begging and a promise to maintain the church’s lawn, for the pastor to agree to put Granny’s beloved weather vane atop the bell tower.
Pappy chuckled. “She always put on a good spin, didn’t she?”

twist and turn, eh? 😉 Spin and twirl … 🙂

No reason at all a weather vane should be irreligious. So long as if wasn’t lewd or devilish, I guess

Right, right?! 🙂
I think the pastor wanted to bargain a bit in order to get something out of it … and indeed he now has free lawncare … 😉

Thank you! 🙂 It’s nice to be back, and it is even nicer to have such a lovely welcome! I’ve been away for a few weeks, with too many demands on my time and energy to be able to do any blogging, but it is nice to be back ‘in the saddle’, as it were, and I’m planning on reading others’ contributions very soon. 🙂

Definitely love the “spin” of your story, the “twists and turns” pointing towards a warm ending. PS, I love weather vanes!

Thank you, Lorraine! So glad you took the time to read and comment. 🙂 Here’s to twist, turns, and fair weather. 😉

Yes, fair weather, especially as there are leaves to rake. A difficult task in the wind, but then the vane would enjoy a good spin.

Na’ama Y’karah,
Barukh HaBa’ah. So good to have you back in the FFFold. What a sweet bet. I’d say there really are no losers. Well done.

Thank you, Rochelle! Indeed no losers when one comes from heart and love, and is seeking to uphold (literally? … 😉 ) more love and heart. And if you get the front lawn taken care of in the process, then all the better for it … 😉
Glad to be back! Was super hectic few weeks, and I’m still collecting my brain-cells from where they are jet-lagging around … but am gradually recognizing myself, which is always a good thing (I think … 😉 ) . XOXO

Great story. I particularly like the part about raking leaves all fall for Ben.

🙂 I have me a feeling that Ben will be looked after (or over …) by his Granny’s weather vane while he is busy with the raking, and that he’d raked up a good bit of credit in the heart department besides … (and Milly’s pleased, too, I believe … ;))

Awwwww, thank you, Keith! It’s been a bit of a nutty end to the summer, and I’ve missed participating, too! Now, I feel so pampered with attention coming back, that I’m (almost…) tempted to drop off the map for a while again … 😉 (just kidding! I’m actually looking forward to the return to more of a routine now that the fall is in fuller swing) 🙂

I think it is my frame of mind (maybe?) but I thought the siblings had done something naughty at first. When I re-read it after the lovely ending, and re-read it just now, I’m not sure why I thought that (haha). So glad to meet you here. I didn’t realize you had been away because I have also. =) Hope you have a nice week ahead!
