“Just how long has this been parked?”
The youth’s shrug managed both disinterest and disdain.
Edith pressed her lips. Inhaled. Her students had called it her “Schoolmarm Face.” They didn’t know it was just as effective at getting her own body to comply.
She pointed at the wheels.
“Grassy stuff,” the youth noted. “It grew.”
Edith knew a hopeless case when she saw it.
“Well then,” she thrust her purse at him.
For the first time, he looked marginally awake. “Um…, Ma’am?”
“Hold it.” She rolled her sleeves. “And help these old knees down. Someone’s got to check the undercarriage.”

😀 Thanks, Dale! I think she’s pretty tough … and I totally can see her sliding under the van on her slicker, with a penlight and a compact mirror. … 🙂

I like to picture myself as such an old broad one day 😉 Though I know diddly-squat about cars…

Ah, I suspect I will have some aspects of that old broad no nonsense approach (though I would know nothing about what to inspect in an undercarriage, I can probably do better in inspecting and assessing a house or a garden. … 😉 To each their own, eh?

This is a fun take! I don’t think the undercarriage will still exist on this model!

She sure is one to not trifle with … and I suspect her love is fierce, too, even if gruffly shown. 🙂

Thank you! Yeah, we gotta be able to control our own behavior if we want others to control theirs, eh? 🙂

Na’ama Y’karah,
Obviously, Edith is strong and capable. “Stand aside, son. The woman can handle herself. I hear her roar. Well done.

Thank you, Rochelle! I think some of us may find a bit of ourselves reflected in her capability, justified or hoped-for … 😉 I wouldn’t be a little lost in inspecting vehicles, but I can hold my own when it comes to some other things. And that feels good. 🙂

What a great woman. I bet she’ll repair the car herself, if it needs it. Fun story, and I love the interaction with the seller.

LOL, she probably WILL repair it herself, too. And she’ll make him hold her tools and fetch and carry. 🙂
