And yet, as they left, colored wagons clattering on paved roads not made for wooden wheels or tender hooves, they were followed by a line of children.

Love the picture of the horses. Is one of them Big Ben? I imagine, for some, running away to the circus provided more of a safe haven and a family. Impacting piece. π
