“He’s gonna do WHAT?!!”
Oh oh, never should have said nothing. I swallowed and inspected my sneakers. Found a stain. Hopefully mustard.
Mom grabbed my shoulder.
“Marcus Anthony Jeremiah Rivera, what did you just say your brother was up to?”
Her face told me it’d be as bad for the messenger if I didn’t confess. I was toast. Benito was gonna beat me up soon as she was done with him.
“See those towers?”
Her eyes narrowed.
“Benito saw a big rope between them and he said it’s perfect for zip-lining.”
Way Mom ran, she should’a been in the Olympics.

Na’ama Y’karah,
I love the way Mom used Marcus’ full name. Poor guy. He’s going to catch it no matter what. Perhaps, when Mom’s finished with Benito, he’ll think better of beating up his brother. Guess you could call me an optimist. π Ah….boys. What one won’t think of the other one will.
Shalom,
Rochelle

π yeah, full name usually spells the need for complete attention and disaster mitigation … π

I love the family dynamics in your story: the tone, the brother relationship, the personality of the mother. And you made me smile.

Thank you, Gabriella … π I’m glad it made you smile … zip-lining between two towers notwithstanding, I think the reality would be recognizable to too many … π

brought back memories. saying your full name usually spells trouble especially if it’s a long one like that. π

Oy. Yes. I realize… Sorry….

Busted! Always in trouble when your full name is used. Hate to be them when they get home. Felt like a realistic story.

Yep, I have a feeling that Benito will “pay it forward” to his brother … for getting him in trouble … (then again, at least he’ll have trouble to get into, rather than … well … ya know … if he tried to zip-line …). Kids do get themselves into all manner of oy-vey, don’t they?

Seems like she may well be … π But, yeah, she knows that if there’s a time to run-full-speed, this may be it …

Marcus’s name is quite a mouthful. And I’m glad I’m not caught in Benito’s position when Mum comes…lol

LOL, yeah, I think that full name is reserved for ‘special circumstances’ … (such as the one where he better spit up what he knows or else … ;))

Absolutely brilliant Na’ama, thanks for the grin.

π Glad you liked it, Keith! (I’m not sure Benito and Marcus did, but, hey, Mama knows best … ;))

A great story, one that made me smile this morning. Full names? Yeah, my sons could tell you stories about hearing their full names!

You captured every mothers’ anguish who have over adventurous sons. Nicely told.

It’s why so many parents have so many grey hairs. If you have an active child you’ll end up with a whole headful by the time they turn 18.
