“Don’t you go spendin’ no money!” Momma Jean announced.
In a whirlwind of industrious determination, she began rummaging through shoe boxes and ancient suitcases, closets, and plastic bags, flinging this or that onto the table.
I didn’t dare to offer help. Once Momma Jean got like this, it was best to keep out of the way.
“Now!” She finally straightened, hair askew and dust-bunnies clinging to the edge of her house-dress. My inveterate neighbor was out of breath and in her element. “You tell me what that costume look like, and I make it for you. You win first prize.”

Na’ama Y’karah,
I could feel the energy in this one. In fact Momma Jean and dust bunnies clinging to her dress left me a little breathless. I’ll bet the costume will be sensational. 😀

🙂 I figured some of us know a Momma Jean in one manifestation or the other (with or without good results on costumes or any other production, but with absolutely similar energetic dedication) 😉
I think that costume will cause a sensation, yes … 😉

Oh, I remember the days. Yea, that could have been me. I was the one to outfit all the kids in the fancy dress, always a store of nicks and knacks. A wonderful memory you’ve returned to me. I thank you.

It doesn’t matter if she wins or not, wearing a “Momma Jean” original has to be much better than anything that you could buy at a store! Nice story 🙂

Everyone should have a Momma Jean, or know of one, which perhaps helps make her leap off the page … dust-bunnies in her house-dress and all … 🙂
Thanks for this fun comment!

Sounds a bit like my Aunt Margaret! I loved going to her house as she’d always have bits and scraps around to sew up a new dress, or shorts, or whatever. At times, I really miss those old dresses she’d make.

I like the sound of Momma Jean. Where was she when I wanted a new suit for an interview? I’d have got the job for sure!

I know! Someone should clone her and make sure everyone has her there to rummage through whatever and make you a suit (though I cannot account for the style … it might’ve come out a bit … um … dated … ;)).
