When he first saw her, he thought, no way!
After all, he preferred the quiet kind who’d let him listen to the crackle, to the silence, to the breathing of the cabin’s logs.
He thought her flippant. Voluble.
Disrespectful of tranquility. Wasting words.
But she’d been sent, and his household needed a woman.
So he endured.
Till he heard her soothe a monologue of comfort into his orphan’s ear.
And his heart turned dear.
For Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt of Flippant in 74 words.
Making up for lost time are ya? And fabulously so, tell you what.
This was just simply lovely, Na’ama. I’m glad his first impression was overturned 🙂

Thank you! Me having fun and procrastinating on other writing work that I must do … So, time to take a walk before the rain arrives … 😉

Ahhh… I so get it.
We are having a most plendiferously beautiful day. I am preparing a salad (potatoes and smoked salmon) to bring to my friends’ BBQ. I’m rather glad out temps will hover around the 75 degree mark as they have no pool…

Ah, yeah, tis mid 80s here and sticky with incoming rain, but I have a five-year-old to air out along with my own need to stretch my legs before the rain will settle me in front of the screen again … 😀

Oh, fun stuff… the five-year-old; not the mugginess!

Yes, mugginess can be a bit … well … sticky. 🙂 No rain yet. Kiddo is back at home, where she’s stay for now. xx

And … I think perhaps he was also not quite sure he was ready for someone to take the place of the one who’d left his child an orphan …

First time I read, I read it as him having an orphan, the second time, as he himself being the orphan 😉 And I imagine that is not an easy task…

ah, perhaps it could indeed be both ways! How interesting! 😀

🙂 it is one of the most fun things with having others read what we write – that we get the opportunity for perspectives we may have missed altogether!

What a wonderful piece. So much said in 74 words. I love the way you used the prompt word ‘flippant’, ‘disrespectful of tranquility’ – beautiful!
