They stand at the entry, grateful, unknown. They’ve come far for this, on a journey not by choice yet still their own. The sound of people’s voices pluck strings in their soul. The light of the fireplace dances on the wall, painting hope, awakening dreams of a home that was never there, yet could be … now … if they allow it in.
Hearts quaking they knock
On the door
To their forever home.
For the dVerse Haibun challenge: Gratitude
Well done! A challenging heartfelt Haibun.

Thank you, Roth! It was not a traditional format, but I am glad it worked anyway!

The poetic turns of your prose is matched by the elegant complement of your haiku!

Thank you, Frank! I know it wasn’t a ‘traditional’ Haibun in the tense of setting but I hoped that it would nonetheless ‘do the job’ of one. I’m so glad it resonated!

What a wonderful hope for those who hope for a home and what a blessing that there are people with hearts large enough to offer love.

Thank you! Yes, there is much magic and much love available in those who open their hearts, and much courage in those who allow themselves to hope – once more, against all odds – that home will come.

A place to call home is something so many take for granted. I’m glad they found theirs.

Yes, it is something many take for granted and too many do not know … I’m glad for any who find a home, wherever they find a home and whomever they find safety with.

Home. One word yet it encompasses such depth of emotion

Thank you, Crispina! It does now, doesn’t it? In different ways for different people and in different meanings at different times … and none of them neutral …

Yea, long long ago, that rock shelter was our home, though we might only use it for the winter 🙂

Indeed, and if it provided a windbreaker and a protection at our back from predators, and if it had a roof to protect from the elements and a flat ground to sleep on (and later, light a fire on and gather around and cook food on), it was home.

If we could just have a little bit more hospitality the world would feel better.
