May you find ample nourishment
In unforeseen places
And may your palate discern
True potential
Even amidst
Prickly spines.
May the sun warm your heart
Like a rain in the desert
To ripen fruits so refined
That they feed
All your needs
And your soul
Once again
Realigns.
For The Daily Post

I used to pick prickly pears in the desert (with kitchen tongs!) and make jelly with them when I lived in Arizona. It was yummy!

They are called “Sabres” in Israel, and they are delicious. You can find them growing wild in many areas, sometimes at the side of the road. They are mostly eaten raw (though one does need to know how to pick and peel without getting the nasty little spines embedded in one’s skin …).
