“So, you’re averse to having daylight in the basement,” Sandra noted.
Doug raised an eyebrow.
“Or fresh air.”
“What’s air gotta do with it?” Doug blurted, annoyed at himself for taking the bait. “I made sure the window opens.”
It was Sandra’s turn to raise a brow. He hated when she did that. It left him wondering whether his face had looked as condescending.
“You mean, can open to invite all the creepy-crawlies in?”
He glanced at the woodpile. An enterprising spider was already spinning a thread over the window’s frame.
“Know what?” Doug huffed. “Next time you do the stacking.”

Oh, I do me for sure. When I have an idea and I fear it might be too… “generic”, I check. If I see there are too many others that seem to be along the same line, I change. I do like to be original, you know! Though, to be honest, most times I don’t (check, that is) 😉

‘You do it next time’ usually shuts up my other half when he criticises something I do. This can backfire though. When I criticise him and hear that, I’m like: ‘sure, you betcha…’ 😉 Fun story.

Well, I think, if the other half ends up doing the job the next time around, this is half the battle won … It’s a win-win: if they end up doing a better job, than a better job it is and that’s a plus already (and it all but guarantees that it’ll become their ‘designated’ job for the rest of eternity … freeing you from it …); and if they don’t do a better job then .. well … there’s the satisfaction of gloating … 😉

In our former house we had a bushes and vines in front of our living room picture window. 2 window actually…side by side. One summer, two spiders took up residence in front of them one for each window. They spun the most amazing webs.
As for your story. It sounds like Sandra’s one of those. There’s nothing I hate more than being condescended to. I know that look. Ugh. I wonder how long this relationship will last? Good story though. Evoked plenty of emotion as you can tell. 😉

Love the resident spider stories. I have some of my own. Fond ones, too. As for Sandra … perhaps having to stack the wood next time will cure some of the attitude … And if not, well … I’d think there’d be less and less to hold their pile together, as it were …
(I hear ya on the condescending aversion. It is disrespectful, by its very nature, and perhaps this is why it is so hurtful. For it tells one that they are lesser than and never will measure up, intrinsically … which is very different than telling one there are things they can improve on. It is icky. I hear ya.)
