She always knew the road could end.
Rickety throughout, it got almost impassable in places. It was a folly, she’d been told. A fool’s errand. Doomed to fail.
The way had never been fully completed, quite possibly never fully traversed. So many had abandoned it that there would be no rest stops, no soft places to lay one’s head.
Indeed, each step confirmed the lack of maintenance.
Still, it was her path to take, her journey to attempt.
And when she faced the maw, the utter void of all support, she knew.
She could turn back.
Or she could leap.

I really like the way you laid this out, Na’ama, with your pounding the barriers yet leaving the MC with options at the end.

This cleverly evokes and imports a chain of tales we know and half recognise so you’ve packed volumes into this tiny space

Thank you, Neil! Tiny space but if I managed to get some thoughts and associations awakened, then I’m oh-so-glad! 🙂

A thoughtful piece, confirmed to me that we all should follow our own path and ensure we maintain the way.

Na’ama Y’karah,
Which do you choose? The lady or the tiger. I like the way you don’t tell me what she’s facing only her quandary. I’m reminded of a quote from a fellow writer in a workshop when she told another, “In the end it’s your decision, darlin’.”

Great quote … and I agree … 😉 Am all for choice, including the choice to change course at any point …

She’s got to take that leap, she’s come this far! Well done.

She CAN take the leap, or she can make another plan … but, I think you’re right and that she will … she’s come this far … 😉

ooooooooooo, you got me with this one…. so excellently woven this story was. The leap indeed. I could picture the journey, too. Ohhh, now you’ve done it… you’ve got my muse to thinking and that always leads to a freakish crazy write fest… Well, there is a very serious winter storm coming in…sure to shut the “world” down here. Hmmmm… paper – check. pens-check. pencils for backup – check. popcorn & snacks – check. Okay, I’m all set!

Yay! If I helped wake the muses I am very pleased indeed! 🙂

A lovely poetic feel to this one. Without many details, I was cheering for your character and wondering what will she do? Which path will she take? A beautiful piece, Na’ama!

I’m assuming this is a metaphor for her life. Skilfully done.
